Incredible, Inspiring & She's My Friend: A Squamish Maternity Session

One of the biggest honors I have ever received was being asked by a fellow photographer to do a maternity session with her and her family.  Monique first introduced herself to me last year when I was working at a local fair.  She was the first photographer in the area to make me feel welcome in what is generally a cut-throat and pretty hostile industry. She gave me hope that we might be able to build a photographic community in the corridor where we could lean on each other and call each other friends, share info and grow stronger together.  Something that I would have assumed was an impossibility in this industry, never mind a small town.  I have had the privilege of working along side Monique at two events for the Municipality of Whistler and this past summer at a wedding.  But by far being able to provide her with images to treasure of her and her family have been the greatest privilege yet.
Congratulations on your beautiful new baby girl.  You are incredibly strong and inspiring & it has been so wonderful to work along side someone who can appreciate all that life can give.  I look forward to many opportunities to work with such a wonderful and talented photographer.

Miss Avery: Squamish Newborn Photographer

Her hair was to die for!  I was spoiled by another wonderful family willing to pack up their 8 day old baby and come all the way from Vancouver to see me here in Squamish.  Couldn't have asked for a sweeter little babe, she slept like an angel.  Here's a few of my faves!

Stop it! You're gorgeous!

2013 has been an amazing year so far & I have been lucky to cross paths with many beautiful bellies!  It absolutely fills me with joy when I hear that upon seeing a sneak peek Dad stopped dead in his tracks & remarked how good mom looks!  Putting a little skip in mom's step & making sure she sees how beautiful she is is pretty much awesome...not gonna lie.  So next time you're grocery shopping and you see some strange girl eyeballing your belly with a peaceful smile on her face, that's probably me envisioning my next session.

You may remember this lovely couple from a recent post about why you should get maternity photos.

When we first met over coffee Mary-Ann & I talked at length about what she envisioned for her maternity session as well as her preference for a studio or in-home newborn session.  There is a lot to consider when we plan a newborn session.  If you're looking for those curled up sleepy bucket shots, or candid moments as a family.  Studio sessions and in home sessions tend to look very different!  In the end Mary-Ann chose an in-home session to capture them just as they are.  New, home....precious.
